Learning to trust your soul starts with going within yourself to release the fear and doubt that keeps you stuck and disconnected from being who you truly are. You alone hold all the answers and guidance you need to make the choices for your life.  Sadly in the rush to be perfect (no failure), do more (e.g. over-working), have ‘things’ (material possessions) we end up forgetting who we really are and why we’re here.   Despite what the glossy magazines may tell us these things don’t satisfy our deepest needs for fulfilment, happiness and purpose. In the rush to get all this ‘stuff’ you silence the intuitive messages from your soul.  Those messages are calling you to find peace within yourself, rather than looking for answers outside of you. Learning to trust your soul takes time so be gentle with yourself.  In my ‘soul journey’, I still have days when thinking and acting logically seem the only options open.  For instance, in my work at times only reason and logic can prevent harm to myself or to others. As I have continued working on silencing the external chatter and shutting down the glare, I’m tuning into my inner knowing.  The more this happens, the more aware and connected I become to my feelings and my needs.  I’m trusting my internal guidance that helps me make healthy choices for myself and not to follow other people’s rules and instructions.

Here are 3 powerful ways you can start connecting with your inner guidance to nourish and serve your soul:

Calm your mind:  We live in stressful times but we don’t have to let the stressors overwhelm us.  Meditation, prayer or simply sitting quietly for a few minutes can create moments of relaxation and ‘downtime’.  This will help you balance your productivity with time for rest, connection and inner reflection.

Practice Mindfulness:  This is a great way to bring more calm into your life.  Being mindful helps us take time to think about and appreciate the simple things like the taste or smell of fruit, the feel on water on our body.  Practice mindfulness to enjoy the little moments you may otherwise miss.

Journalling:  You don’t have to be a great writer to feel the benefits of journaling.  Spending even 5 minutes a day allowing your thoughts to appear and writing them down is a way of releasing negative thoughts.  Journaling also helps you express your deepest desires, find clarity and feel more centred. There is so much information we can access in many different ways today – t.v., radio, social media, books, from friends, the list is endless.

We are often less willing to go inside ourselves to find advice and answers.  Once you start to trust your soul, you will be comfortable following the messages it sends to help you make better choices, have more clarity and feel more joy in your life.
